February 2026 is peak “only in Houston” season. You’ve got lanterns glowing at the Houston Botanic Garden, NBA games downtown, markets in the Heights and East End, and the smell of mesquite drifting over NRG Park as Rodeo season kicks off with the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. Whether you’re in town for work, medical treatment, or a winter escape, there’s no reason to stay in once the sun goes down.
Here are Lodgeur’s favorite things to do in and around central Houston this February 2026 – including plenty that are easy to reach from Midtown, the Museum District, and the Texas Medical Center.

Kick off the month at the First Saturday Arts Market in the Heights on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Stroll rows of local artists, handmade jewelry, and small-batch goodies while live music plays in the background. It’s outdoors, dog-friendly, and an easy way to sneak some culture into the day without dragging kids through a “quiet” space.
On Sundays, head east to the Navigation Esplanade for the East End Farmers Market. Every Sunday from 10am–2pm, the market blends fresh produce, local food stalls, and live music right on the boulevard in front of the original Ninfa’s. It’s great for families: grab tacos, let the kids try aguas frescas, and browse the stalls for snacks to take back to your apartment.
After dark, trade market stalls for lanterns at Radiant Nature at the Houston Botanic Garden. The massive outdoor installation features larger-than-life illuminated sculptures, tunnels of light, and interactive displays spread across the garden. For February 2026, Radiant Nature runs through Sunday, February 22, 2026, with timed entry slots in the evening. Tickets are a separate purchase from regular garden admission; adult tickets start around $28.50, with free admission for children ages 3 and under and discounted nights on select days.
Mid-month, Houston goes all-in on the Year of the Horse. Lunar New Year celebrations pop up across the city – from big festivals in Asiatown to lion dances in the Museum District and a night market downtown. Instead of listing every event here, we’ve collected the best options for families in a separate guide: read our Lunar New Year in Houston: Year of the Horse 2026 post for specific dates, locations, and kid-friendly picks.
For quieter days, you can always fall back on Houston’s museums. February is Black History Month and many venues, including the Children’s Museum Houston and the Houston Museum of Natural Science, layer in special programming, pop-up performances, or hands-on activities for kids. Check each museum’s event calendar before you go – some programs are included with general admission, while others require a separate ticket.

Downtown, music fans have a full month at Jones Hall. The Houston Symphony leans into February with a Billy Joel tribute, Piano Man: The Music of Billy Joel, early in the month, followed by a “doomed lovers” festival of romantic-but-intense symphonies and opera highlights around Valentine’s Day. It’s a very on-theme lineup if you’re in town for a couples’ trip or just want an excuse to dress up for a night out.
If your idea of culture comes in a pint glass, circle a February Saturday for ZiegFest at Karbach Brewing Co.. Expect an all-day country music lineup, food, and plenty of beer at the brewery’s outdoor space in Northwest Houston. It’s a classic “locals” festival: casual dress, lawn chairs, and a very Houston mix of boots and Astros caps.
Back downtown, the POST Houston campus turns into a huge design and shopping playground when Market for Makers returns for a Valentine’s-weekend edition. Expect dozens of small makers selling jewelry, home goods, candles, art, and gifts, plus a great excuse to explore POST’s food hall and rooftop skyline views.
If you’re up for a quick coastal day trip, Mardi Gras! Galveston runs over two weekends in early-to-mid February, turning the island’s historic downtown into a full-blown carnival with parades, concerts, balcony parties, and family zones. Check the official Mardi Gras! Galveston site for parade schedules and ticketed balcony or concert options, then head back to Houston to sleep in a quiet apartment instead of on the Strand.
And all month long, you’ve got the Houston Rockets playing at the Toyota Center. Snag tickets for a weeknight game downtown; it’s an easy add-on if you’re staying at Lodgeur Midtown and riding the METRORail straight into the heart of the action.
Toward the end of the month, Rodeo season officially announces itself with smoke and country music at the
Event times, lineups, and ticket prices can change, so always double-check the organizers’ websites before you go. Planning ahead? After February’s festivals, BBQ, and basketball, you’ll want to see what’s coming next in Lodgeur’s picks for March events and celebrations in Houston.
