Those seeking a transcendent escape can lose themselves in Houston Grand Opera’s production of Wagner’s final, mystical opera “Parsifal” from January 10-28. If you’re interested in Houston’s smaller arts organizations, the Mix-MATCH Festival is a must-see. On January 13, you can experience 30+ live performances from local dance, theater, music and film organizations. The musical that swept the world when it opened in 1985 also returns to Houston this month, telling the epic story of Jean Valjean, imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, and the relentless Inspector Javert, who tracks him across the decades. Kick off 2024 surrounded by over 50 magnificent glowing lantern sculptures at the Botanic Garden’s Radiant Nature event. Marvel at a towering 200-foot glittering dragon, vibrant peacock displays, and more during select nights until February.

Then check out the free Family Fun Day at MATCH Theater on January 14, from 1-5pm, next door to Lodgeur at Mid Main Lofts. The 7th Annual Family Fun Day includes live performances, bounce houses, stilt walkers and face painters.

Catch some extreme action when Monster Jam trucks rev up for crazy stunts and demo racing at NRG Stadium on January 20 and 21. Feel your heart pound as 10,000-pound beastly trucks launch 30 feet into the air, pull off gravity-defying wheelies and race at exhilarating speeds!

If you’re a sports fan, see the Rockets on January 24 as they play against the Portland Trailblazers at Toyota Center. Tipoff is at 7 PM. Tickets start at just $12. FYI, the first 2,000 fans will receive a Jalen Green Dunking Bobblehead!
